Zoe and I love a high bun. Well, I did 'til I got the chop. We first realised the utter genius of it when we were at Sydney Fashion Week in 2007. They were all over the catwalks, and everywhere in the front row - notably cute on the head of stylist Kym Ellery, hence why we call it the KYMELLERYBUN to ourselves. The bun. It's the best "hangover hair", the best "I'm going to the beach and I don't want to do my hair hair" and the best "I'm going out in a stupidly expensive frock and heels and I don't want to look like I'm the kind of trashbag that loves a spray tan and my GHD" hair. Lykke Li does it awfully well, and it's good when messy, a la bottom picture. Plus, it reveals the nape of the neck, which in my opinion is definitely a good thing - there's an episode of Gossip Girl where Blair seduces Chuck just by lifting her hair up to reveal, it's really cute.
Like so many things in life, the higher, the better. So: spray your hair with Bumble and Bumble Beach Spray, tip your head upside down, grab the nearest elastic band (and a comb for the wispy bits)...and you're done. Too easy, too cute.
