I'm back at work today and as I was coming in on the bus, Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 came up on iPod shuffle. Freaky. She may be one of the tackiest bitches alive, but I love Dolly. She's sassy, loves pink, has big hair and says things like, "I was the first woman to burn her bra - it took the fire department four days to put it out."
My favourite Dolly songs are Jolene and Dumb Blonde ("this dumb blonde ain't nobody's foooooool"). And I may have to have a Dolly Parton film festival soon: Steel Magnolias, Nine to Five, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Oh, and the episode of Alvin & the Chimpunks where she appears in animation form.
Lula issue #2 featured an amazing spread where 13 artists pay tribute to the southern belle.
Other Dolly fans include Lesely Arfin (I want that cup!), and Katie Grand, who told The Guardian that she plays Dolly to keep her team inspired. "At 3am everyone likes to hear some Dolly Parton." Never have words been so true.
