leith clark

Natalie just sent me this lovely soundbite from Leith Clark, stylist and editor-in-chief of Lula. One day soon when Natalie and I own our own magazine, this is how we want to work.

What is the creation process of Lula magazine like?
As much simplicity as possible. Instinctually. We keep our heads down and get into the world we want to create for that issue, and don't come up for air until it's done. We work together comfy, with sushi, a bottle of wine, the three of us (Becky, Lula's creative director; Charlotte, Lula's features editor; and me) -- usually at Becky's flat or at a pub. My dog is there too. It's three good friends. I ramble about God-knows-what, then we all work to make it come to life.
I love Clark. She is adorable, owns one of my favourite magazines, wears Charles Anastase and is BFF’s with the likes of Zooey Deschanel, Valentine Fillol-Cordier and Erin Featherston. And she has a dog called Tilda Plum! She dresses a bit cutesy, but who am I to judge – that’s pretty much exactly how I dress. She once told Jane magazine, "I like dresses that look like cakes."

I love how she is dreamy and girlish, and makes no apologies for it - especially in fashion when liking pink and bows and flowers and headbands is like, so unhip.

"If I want to buy something, it's usually for some sort of nostalgic reason - because it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland or Little Orphan Annie. I think we are most true to our tastes when we are young and before anyone has told us what we should like."
Read this interview in The Guardian for a taste of how lovely Clark is.
