Lily Allen: a bit of a pain in the arse isn’t she? I can see why so many people hate her – she’s lippy and sarcastic with a penchant for speaking her mind and saying naughty words. She kind of reminds me of how I get when I’m drunk. But I like her regardless. I think it's because she seems utterly complicated: one part arrogant and bitchy, another part completely insecure and unsure of herself.

She released her new album this week. It's called It's Not Me, It's You, and it features her usual naughty lyrics - she sings about lying in the 'wet patch' (er, not in wee, think dirtier), has a song called Fuck You and another about everyone being at it, i.e. on drugs. She also gets a bit deep, with songs about god, her absent father and celebrity culture. On first listen, it's ok. Just ok. Maybe it'll grow on me.

The best thing about the new album is that she's all over the press and interweb, coming out with funny soundbites - like these from her interview in er, Interview.

"I don’t know how they’ve managed to brand the recession. I think I might start to make my own cereal called Credit Crunch. It would just be a cereal laced with speed so you don’t need to buy food for the rest of the day.”

Damien Hirst: "What are some of the obstacles you’ve confronted as a woman?"
Lily Allen: "Putting on a bra is quite complicated."

I do appreciate good dry humour. And really, you've got to love someone who can take the piss out of everyone and themselves so brilliantly.
