rapunzel

I got my hair cut into a bob for my 10th birthday, and I looked like a scrawny blonde boy. I do love bobs - Twiggy, Mia Farrow, Suri Cruise, Anna Wintour, Natalie Smith - but it’s definitely not a good look on me. I’m all about the long hair. I love how it can have so many different connotations: hippie chick (Mary Kate), cute and sweet (Tennessee Thomas), Californian Valley Girl (Cher in Clueless), French simplicity (Clemence Posey). Disney princesses, Rapunzel, Pantene ads, Francoise Hardy, hair flicks, Kurt Cobain: it all reminds me of lovely long locks. I mainly love long hair because it requires near to zero maintenance. Wake up. Look in the mirror (that part is optional). Comb your fingers through it. Done. I probably should put more effort into it - maybe try some curls like Iekeliene or straighten it like Natasha Kahn - but usually I just can’t be bothered. I’m obsessed with the low-fi, relaxed and slightly messy hair of Tennessee, Chloe Sevigny and Clemence. It says: "I’m so busy and important and cool that I don’t have time to do my hair". Or maybe they’re just lazy like me?
