I am a sucker for a sweet treat. I like baking - cakes and biscuits, cupcakes. Sometimes they're a total disaster, but I still find it satisfying - although for some reason I can't eat the things I make - I like to give them away. I love cupcakes, especially the pretty ones from here. I love macarons as well - perhaps more for the visual aspect of the sugary pastel shades arranged en masse. And, I adore looking at neatly arranged American-style candy stores. All the names fascinate me, probably because I grew up reading about 'Junior Mints' and 'Peppermint Patties' and 'Hershey's Kisses' and 'Reese's Peanut Butter Cups' and 'Red Hots' and 'Babe Ruth Bars' in trashy American books like the Babysitters Club. Of course, sweetness can also be cloying and sickly. Zoe described a girl we met once as so sweet she gave her a cavity, which I think is kind of funny.

I think mostly it's because I like the colours of candy - pastels and pinks, rainbow ordered. I love the 'Cordial Invites' of designer Keetra Dean Dixon, above. In fact, I love all of her work - it's crying out to be made into a cake and eaten with a cup of tea. Or something.
