be kind

This morning I hung out in a small farm theme park with my two-year-old nephew, some llamas, a couple of donkeys, lots of rabbits, three sheep, two pigs, some grumpy goats, a Shetland pony and a very friendly Tonkinese cat. Then tonight I saw a piece on the news about the peak in horrific animal abuse over summer, and it made me cry. And of course there’s Sam the badly burned koala, rescued by fire-fighters in the aftermath of the Victoria bushfires before the Victoria bushfires, which also made me a bit teary eyed.

Now, I’m not one to get all wet and soppy, and I get my heckles up when anyone starts preaching to me, but: Natalie and I love animals. She already wrote about rabbits and ponies, and I gushed about kittens here. Animals should be loved, not tortured or abandoned or burnt in fires. So this post is simply about encouraging some animal love. Go and donate to one of the charities below, then go and give your cat/dog/rabbit/sheep/donkey a hug.

Donate, adopt a pet or learn how to become an SPCA volunteer here.

And donate to WSPA here.

Thank you.
