I am a fashion writer, and sometimes I feel like the stuff I write about is really really stupid. Phrases like fashionista, fabulous, black is the new black and must-have usually make me want to burn whichever magazine they appear in. "Grunge is back!" "Buy this top!" "Check out this new It girl!" It's gross, especially when people start to take it way too seriously. I think that's why I adore Hadley Freeman's (and Stacy Gregg's) writing - they make fashion fun and accessible and don't take it or themselves too seriously. I do have a point here. There's a new (?) publication called WWWWD - it's a spoof of trade rag Women's Wear Daily, lampooning everything that is wrong with fashion writing. I love it! The cover story loudly proclaims "SHOES ARE BACK!"

"Try as you might, there was no denying that, from Givenchy and Chanel to Dior and Armani, shoes were all over the runways at last month's Haute Couture collections." HA!

They also "expose" that Gossip Girl is Donatella Versace, name Suri Cruise as the "most influential style icon of our generation", and feature party photos from a spina bifida party hosted by the Missshapes. The 'briefs' part at the front is hilarious too: Emmanuelle Alt reveals her private summer hideaway (it's a shack), Henry Holland remains "upbeat despite a caps lock malfunction", and reveals a new diffusion line from Marc Jacobs called 'Marc by Marc by Marc by Marc Jacobs'.
