best coast

I spend quite a lot of time clicking away through different music blogs and streaming them to work to (my favourites are Rose Quartz, Gorilla vs Bear and RCRDLBL). I suppose this is the way most people find out about new music now, and although I think it negates chance findings to a point, I know that I will like what's on these sites and they align with my taste. I don't really listen to local radio unless I'm driving, or lying on the couch on a Sunday, and then it's National Radio and it's mostly interviews and interesting features. So blogs are the way I find out about new music, mostly, unless it's a mix cd from a friend or maybe listening to Jarvis Cocker's show on the BBC.

Best Coast are one of those rising up from the internet bands, one that has slowly been on my peripheral vision for the past six months or so. Typically, I'd only heard the singles - When I'm With You is the song that stands out. I listened to it over and over through the summer months. When I'm With You, I Have Fun. Their debut album is a delight. The songs are are simultaneously nostalgic and modern, pretty and poppy and dark. I like this quote, which I think sums up how they sound just perfectly:

"Best Coast evokes a nostalgia for the California of Gidget and dates at the soda fountain without forgetting that it is that same California that would later spawn Charles Manson."

We have two Best Coast albums to giveaway thanks to our friends at Popfrenzy. Email somuchtotellyoublog@gmail.com and tell us something beautiful (with Best Coast in the subject line). Entries close July 28, the winner will be drawn by random number generator and posted on July 30. One entry per reader. Good luck!
