mine

Mine was late night cupcake delivery, pancakes with blueberries and banana, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. It was Narrowneck and sunburn, and lemon curd icecream. It was sweaty dancing to Songs, singing along to Sam Cooke and reading Catcher in the Rye for the umpteenth time.

state of mind

Paris plans, suburban swimming pools, dead flowers, toffee apples, lanterns and animals at the zoo: that was my weekend. How was yours?

film club

Oh my gosh, I cannot wait for the World Cinema Showcase, a film festival that starts in Auckland at the end of March. There are so many good films! The typical fashion films, A Single Man and Picture Me, but I'm especially looking forward to seeing Sister Smile (about The Singing Nun!), Gentlemen Broncos (Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords!), Fish Tank, Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae, Soundtrack For A Revolution, Herb & Dorothy and Good Hair, a documentary that "sets out to find why - and how very much - Chris Rock's African-American sisters crave different hair from what the Good Lord gave them".

the devil and I wear prada

Swoon, I love Prada. I'm very lucky because I was recently given the new Prada book. It is a brick of a thing and I am yet to really get into it, but it looks incredible from what I have flicked through so far. It examines every single tiny detail of the brand, with pages dedicated to showcasing every runway outfit they've ever done, and each seasonal campaign! I can't wait to read more. And I can't wait for the day when I can afford to wear Prada (which, let's get realistic, will probably be never). The latest collection walked in Milan today, examining the idea of female sexuality right now (although doesn't every Prada collection do this?), and this time it's all about "female cliches that women can't give up" - bows, ruffles, full skirts. I want to wear it all. I like Cathy Horyn's summation of the collection, in which she wrote, "The world of women is vast, Ms. Prada seemed to be saying, and not everyone is a teenage runway zombie". Indeed.

take it easy

Here are some outfits I like. I have been wearing pretty much the same thing in varying combinations for a few months now, and it shows no sign of abating. Dark pants or jeans. Stripey tops or blue shirts. Cutoffs with stripey tops or blue shirts. Black dresses. I'm sure no one really cares about what I wear, I mean, I hardly do (and it's quite obvious by the crumples - less insouciant, more I-don't-give-a-fuck and I want to sleep in until ten minutes before i have to be somewhere). What have you been living in?

magazine of my dreams

It's been online for a few days so you may have already seen it, but here is the cute new cover of Lula. It's supposedly one of a few that feature models dressed up as characters from Strawberry Shortcake, which is enough to turn me into an oohing and aahing mess. I was obsessed with the cartoon when I was younger - my favourite being Blueberry Muffin (I had the doll). I hope she gets a cover!

mornings - frank o'hara

I've got to tell you
how I love you always
I think of it on grey
mornings with death

in my mouth the tea
is never hot enough
then and the cigarette
dry the maroon robe

chills me I need you
and look out the window
at the noiseless snow

At night on the dock
the buses glow like
clouds and I am lonely
thinking of flutes

I miss you always
when I go to the beach
the sand is wet with
tears that seem mine

although I never weep
and hold you in my
heart with a very real
humor you'd be proud of

the parking lot is
crowded and I stand
rattling my keys the car
is empty as a bicycle

what are you doing now
where did you eat your
lunch and were there
lots of anchovies it

is difficult to think
of you without me in
the sentence you depress
me when you are alone

Last night the stars
were numerous and today
snow is their calling
card I'll not be cordial

there is nothing that
distracts me music is
only a crossword puzzle
do you know how it is

when you are the only
passenger if there is a
place further from me
I beg you do not go
