oh zooey
As you know, I love Zooey Deschanel and I Love Ellen von Unwerth. The combination of the two is usually pretty awesome too - whether it be for Lula or an Erin Fetherston movie. But now Ellen has has photographed Zooey for this new Absolut Vodka ad campaign. Am I alone in hating this? All I think when I look at it is, "sell out!". Also - she's drinking a Cosmo. Maybe that's why I dislike it so much.

you're such a fricken egg
Boy is a dreamer who loves Michael Jackson. He lives with his brother Rocky, a tribe of deserted cousins and his Nan. Boy's other hero, his father, Alamein, is the subject of Boy's fantasies, and he imagines him as a deep sea diver, war hero and a close relation of Michael Jackson (he can even dance like him). In reality he's in the can for robbery. When Alamein returns home after 7 years away, Boy is forced to confront the man he thought he remembered, find his own potential and learn to get along without the hero he had been hoping for.
Boy is a new New Zealand film from director Taika Waititi (Eagle Vs Shark, Flight of the Conchords), and one you have to see if you get the chance. Set in 1984, it is the coming of age story of Boy, an innocent 11-year-old who lives in a small town on the East Coast of NZ. But don't let the words 'coming of age' scare you off; it really is very good. Boy's whimsical and "weird" little brother Rocky, played by the adorable Te Aho Eketone-Whitu, was definitely my favourite part. Cousin Kelly and her fur coat were pretty cool too. Watch it!

turn the lights down low
It's Earth Hour this Saturday, a nice ritual to remind us to be careful and gentle with the earth, as well as a global action to call attention to climate change. Little things add up! Don't use the dryer if you can help it, turn off the lights unless you're not in the room, avoid driving as much as possible... You know the drill. Last year Zoe and I had a bed picnic with red wine and candles and chocolate to celebrate Earth Hour, it was great. See this site for more information.

you're my inspiration
I've been collecting images of images for a while. Inspiration boards, pin up walls, collages, fridge doors. I love the ephemera and the tactile nature of them, the eclectic recording of time, experience. It's so random, and you can't hurry it, it has to emerge over time - the ticket from the first movie you saw together, a favourite image torn from a magazine (Imagen de Yagul by Ana Mendheta, 1973, from Acne Paper), a pink post-it note with some quotes I've read on the internet (Be steady and well ordered in your life so that you can be fierce and original in your work, Gustave Flaubert), a photo of my dog from when I was five, an image of Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe. Well, that's what's on mine anyway. What's on yours?

garden party

I am obsessed with my little garden. I just repotted all my vegetable seedlings for autumn – sprouting broccoli, fennel, spinach, chard and herbs like rosemary and sage and thyme. It's the most soothing way to spend an afternoon.

print isn't dead

There are so many magazines on shelves, but which do you buy and cherish? What publications do you get genuinely excited about, and keep long after you have read them? And why do you love them so much? The only magazines that I would spend my last dollar on would be Lula and UK Vogue - Lula for the whimsy, and UK Vogue because I dream about working there. I buy other magazines, but not with the same regularity as those two.
I'm also really interested to hear about your 'dream magazine'. What would it be like?
the fine print

I love fashion and clothes, but rarely does a collection incite the level of excitement and greed that this Miu Miu collection has. So much has already been written about it, but oh my gosh, look at it! The princess shoes and sparkle are great, but the prints are what make me so excitable. Cats! Swallows! Flowers! And erm, naked ladies... I would gladly drop (lots of) coin on any of them, but could stare at that cat print all day long. Imagine walking around in the beige cat print blouse? It would be impossible not to smile.photos: vogue nippon, miu miu, cherry blossom girl

hit the spot
Natalie and I are both currently obsessed with this polka dot blouse from Karen Walker's Hi There range. I'm wearing it right now, and I wouldn't be surprised if Natalie was wearing it too. I love polka dots, maybe even more than I love stripes - and that's a pretty big call.
